As Far as Farthest East
As far as farthest east is from the west,
So far, you say, my sins you shall remove.
And daily though I put you to the test,
Daily still your faithfulness you prove.
Your flood has borne my trespasses away,
Yet still the stain of sin would wreck my soul
Did not, though floods have passed, their mercies stay
To cleanse the stain anew and make me whole.
I rest within this grace; and yet I fear
The ease with which I turn expecting more.
What price you paid! And yet, how cavalier
I come uncaring knocking at your door.
I know that you alone can bear the blame;
But give me grace, O God, to feel some shame.
