The Stygian Fairy

Along the river down to death

A fairy-nymph lives in the reeds

Who told in whispered, quiet breath

Of one returning from Hades.

No leave was given him to go

By lovely Queen Persephone;

Bourn not by Charon’s dreary boat

Nor swam the fatal waves did he.

But having drunk God’s cup of wrath,

The souls of mortal men to fix,

He walked once more a wat’ry path—

Not on Galilee, but Styx.

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look,

I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys

of Death and Hades. Revelation 1:18
